Today we rode out of Crawfordsville, Indiana under clear skies with comfortably cool temperatures.
We rode through some larger towns and neighborhoods today as well as some farmland on our way to Indianapolis. Until the first SAG I rode with the English National Cycling Team- Masters Division and they gave me a thumbs up on my 2 or 3 times at the front of the peloton, an improvement from my last go around.
Dave Hosley leading the peloton, earnestly doing his best to measure up to the high standards of the English National Cycling Team- Masters Division.
They stopped for lunch at the SAG, so I rode on with young Zak during the afternoon.
Toward the end of today's ride, we stopped by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. No races were scheduled today, so the track was closed. Our next stop was the Historic Major Taylor Velodrome.
It is one of a handful of operating velodromes in the US.
Everyone seemed to get a kick out of riding around the banked track of the velodrome. The English National Cycling Team- Masters Division especially enjoyed themselves. They have a popular velodrome close to where they live in England. Typically in track cycling, you use single-speed bikes with no brakes. Today we just used our own bikes.
We all made it safely to our hotel this afternoon. When I arrived, I had a package waiting for me at the hotel. I had ordered a new chain and some new tires from my bike shop. This evening I'll put them on my bike. Tomorrow is a rest day. I plan to do laundry, do some shopping and catch up on some work I need to do on the computer. Then Wednesday it's back to bike riding across the country. What a life!
