Day 39 Indianapolis, IN, to Richmond, IN     74 miles 1723 feet of climb

After an uneventful rest day in Indianapolis, we headed out this morning for Richmond, Indiana, some 75 miles to the east. It was a pleasant morning as we rode out of the city and into the surrounding towns. It was humid but not too hot due to the cloud cover.  Zak and I rode together for almost the entire day. The terrain was mostly flat with a few very gradual uphills.

In the town of Cambridge City, Zak got a flat tire and as he was fixing it a very nice young lady named Beth came over from across the street and asked us how we were doing and where we were headed. Zak informed her that we were biking across the country, and she told us that she had, in fact just taken up cycling and had just finished her morning ride. She commented that it was a very relaxing recreation for her. Beth is a member of the local chamber of commerce, and she let us know that Cambridge City has become quite a destination for antique shopping here in Indiana.  I told her I'd give her town a plug in my blog. So here you go Beth!

Friends, whenever I happen to be in the great state of Indiana, there is one place and one place only that I go shopping for my fine antiques -  and that place is Cambridge City!

Zak had his heart set on eating lunch at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant. So upon our arrival in Richmond, that is what we did. Thankfully we avoided a rainstorm that was just a bit ahead of us for most of the afternoon.
To promote goodwill and harmony between we American riders and our British counterparts, this evening, Jim Nealon presented The English National Cycling Team with some custom made tee shirts. The shirts show a High Wheeler on the front and the words, "Old Wankers Cycling Team" on the back.

Jim Nealon is one of the most articulate people that I've ever met, and this was on full display tonight as he made the presentation. He graciously thanked our British friends for leaving their, "small island nation" to come cycle across our vast and great country. Jim is a true statesman.

Tomorrow we leave Indiana behind and ride on to Ohio. We have about 1000 miles to go before we dip the front wheels of our bikes into the Atlantic Ocean in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
